       As a process of thought, metaphor has not only various rhetorical functions, but also fundamental epistemological functions. Metaphor enables one to transfer understanding from what is well known to what is less well known in a vivid way, thus enhancing learning. The presentation will explore metaphors in psychology and the role of metaphor in education. A case study of educational metaphorical use in the Qualitative Research Methods course will be introduced in detail. It prompts teachers and students to more consciously consider the potential of metaphor as a teaching and learning aid.
