报告简介:
The present research introduces the minimal sharpness effect. We propose that numbers that are slightly above a numerical category boundary (e.g., 1001 in comparison to 1000) are arousal-inducing, and that the heightened arousal can be misattributed to the incentive value of the focal product, thus increasing consumers’ wanting but not liking. Results from nine experiments provide converging evidence for the minimal sharpness effect. Specifically, we show that consumers are more likely to choose and willing to pay more for products associated with a minimally-sharp-number, regardless of whether or not the number represents product quantity, brand name, or model series. Moreover, we show that the minimal sharpness effect diminishes when people are already aroused or when they attribute the arousal to other sources. Finally, we show that the effect of minimal sharpness could be reversed in certain attribute dimensions (e.g., price), shedding light on when the minimal sharpness effect will occur in various contexts.

报告简介:
Pro-social rule breaking (PSRB) refers to any instance where an employee intentionally violates a formal organizational policy, regulation, or prohibition with the primary intention of promoting the welfare of the organization or one of its stakeholders. By definition, this construct may have both positive (i.e., pro-social intention) and negative (i.e., rule-breaking deviance) implications, leading to either positive or negative evaluation of the PSRB actors (i.e., individuals who engage in PSRB). In this research, we examine two factors that may impact people’s evaluation of PSRB actors in the workplace, the actor’s task performance (high versus low) and the observer’s role (supervisor versus coworker). Results based on a vignette study (Study 1) will be presented. I will also present the methodology of an ongoing data collection (Study 2) aiming to replicate our results in a field sample, and seek for feedback to improve the design of this study. Theoretical and practical implications of this research will be discussed.
